Jackson County Education Outreach

In 2015, conservation districts educated 100,000 students statewide about agriculture, farming, wildlife, and (of course) conservation! Alabama is blessed with an abundance of natural resources and natural beauty. Conservation districts offer a number of educational programs to show students how to be good stewards of our natural resources so future generations can enjoy the same Alabama the Beautiful we know and love. Contact your district administrative coordinator if you’d like to bring an educational program to your school or group, and be sure to check out what’s available on the state level too.

Jackson County Ag Tour – Each year the Jackson County Conservation District hosts the “Jackson County Faces of Ag Tour” which showcases agricultural diversity in our County.

Dutton Ag Day – We present a program on the benefits and importance of earth worms to our soil at Ag Day at the Dutton Elementary School.

Engaging and effective EnviroScape® creats a real sense of understanding through hands-on demonstrations. Suitable for all ages. The EnviroScape® model is available for loan. FFA Land Judging – Facilitate the County land juding competition by selecting the site, grading the pits and assisting with tallying score cards. This event it designed to help students learn more about soils and the differences in their capabilities. Participants also learn about methods of soil conservation and improvement, treatments to help in obtaining higher production and selection of suitable home sites. We also serve as pit bosses.
