LAUDERDALE COUNTY CONSERVATION SERVICES

Conservation districts are the local connection between those who use and work the land to the education, technical knowhow, and resources they need to be good stewards of our natural resources.

Funding for various Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) programs becomes available each year to assist land users achieve their conservation goals. Explore the programs below, and contact your local district administrative coordinator to determine your eligibility.

Agricultural Conservation Easement Program

Agricultural land easements protect the longterm viability of the nation’s food supply by preventing conversion of productive working lands to nonagricultural uses. Land protected by agricultural land easements provides additional public benefits, including environmental quality, historic preservation, wildlife habitat, and protection of open space.

Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP)

Through CSP, participants take additional steps to improve resource condition including soil quality, water quality, water quantity, air quality, and habitat quality, as well as energy.

Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)

Eligible program participants receive financial and technical assistance to implement conservation practices, or activities such as conservation planning, that address natural resource concerns on their land.

Second Creek Watershed Area Grant

We are partnering with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) to help improve the water quality of Second Creek. There is a designated area within the Second Creek Watershed that is between Lexington and Elgin where additional cost-share funds are available to producers as an incentive to install practices aimed at reducing the E. coli load flowing into Second Creek. Some of the available practices for cost-share include cross fencing, livestock water improvement, grass planting, tree and shrub plantings and heavy use feed areas. All landowners that think their property may be within this designated area are encouraged to come by or call the office for more details.

Equipment to Loan

We have a Smart Fence II System with a portable $17 Solar Energizer to lend out to farmers for FREE to encourage the use of cross fencing, rotational grazing and strip grazing.
